About Worthley’s

We are a South Australian family-owned business that has been operating for over 90 years.  We are open to trade customers and also supply to numerous industries such as, Roofing, Engineering, Transport, Plumbing, Airconditioning & Refrigeration, Glazing and Sheet Metal.

We stock a vast range of products and specialise in fasteners, silicone and sheet lead.

Our History

In 1930 Frederick Irwin Worthley opened a hardware store on Port Rd at Hindmarsh with his wife.  During the depression, people would collect butt ends of solder and bring them in to Fred and he would pay them cash.  He then remelted the ends into sticks of solder to sell in the hardware store.

Business began booming, and the decision was made to concentrate on making solder.  So Fred sold the hardware store to his sister, and manufactured the solder in a tin shed at the back of the store.  This is where his son, Frederick Walter Worthley joined the family business.  Production continued expanding, so Fred’s son Allen came on board in 1961.

Allen’s hard work paid off and they once again outgrew their premises and moved to West St Brompton in 1980 and expanded to include hardware.

Continually growing, we then moved to our current premises in Wingfield in 1990.  Allen’s son Brett started in 2000 and is now proudly managing Worthley’s.
